Luke Envoy - M.U.G.E.N (Wonder 128 mix & Jakes Mix)
First off, a bit of a history lesson.
We all remember this one right? Luke Envoy from back in 2008 and the mighty fine stuttery stepper “M.U.G.E.N”…
Well it seems, that after an eternity as dubplates, the DJ Wonder 128 mix and the Jakes mix are finally getting releases via Wonder’s Wonderland imprint as WND006
Wonder’s 128 mix (if you didn’t already know) updates the original to a throbbing, insistent groove. Complete with Tribal style drums, additional percussion and a growing sense of pressure from the bass before throwing it into some classic 2step territory. I can see this one making it’s way into a lot of people’s crates.
Jakes on the other hand is…..well it’s Jakes. As much as most of the recent H.E.N.C.H releases aren’t really my thing, Jakes is on form with this one. Mangled vocals, an elastic and hypnotic bassline and the sparse drum arrangements you’d expect from someone so deeply rooted in the Bristol scene makes this one of his best works to date.
No firm release date as yet (as far as I’m aware) but definitely seek this one out when it drops.
